Kiss Me Kate
June 2014
This show follows a theatre company performing onstage in multiple locations in an Italian village, while the drama really goes on backstage and in the dressing rooms. The number of locations that need to be fully realized is pretty huge, and the script requires at least 18 separate doors. The biggest challenge is that the main curtain needs to literally drop down. My stage does not have any kind of fly space and only a few feet of head room above the proscenium, but we sewed and rigged a large red drape to Austrian up and down with a counter weighted fly line. We also had a proscenium header that flew in and out and proscenium legs that would track on to match. Two double sided wagons took care of the second level balcony and court yard and interior scenes in the play within the play.
